INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
The Lighthouse International Film Festival is an annual event located at Long Beach Island that brings together film makers and fans alike. After the destruction caused by Sandy, the theme of 2013's festival was "Long Beach Island is back". Approaching the design, I wanted to keep it fun and lighthearted through the use of color and illustration. The client required a poster, double-sided rack card, event program guide, web site design, and a billboard. Click below to download the poster or view the official site.
THE BUTCHER'S BLOCK
The Butcher's Block was in need of a new identity that matched their focus on fresh, quality meat and local, family-friendly atmosphere. I wanted to convey the feeling of an "old world" butcher shop yet retain a modern new age look. I created branded materials including: customized butcher paper, order cards, business cards, loyalty cards, and stationery that reflected the updated identity.
CITI SALUTES: REALIZING YOUR DREAM
Citi Salutes: Realizing Your Dream is a program started to help veteran entrepreneurship by providing funding to veteran-owned small businesses. Citi required a notebook, bookmark, and one page site. Staying within Citi's brand guidelines, I wanted to reference military iconography, yet retain a friendly, approachable feel.
SAMSUNG VOD APP
Working with alongside another agency assigned to design the UX, I had the opportunity to create the user interface of a video on demand app for Samsung. The app was created for the Nexus 10 tablet, using Android 4.3 OS. The app release date is TBA.
A CREATIVE COOKBOOK
A Creative Cookbook is a collaboration between Kim Suntrup and myself. Kim and I created a book that celebrates both food and design. I was interested in a balance between making the book feel like an old family heirloom, but with beautiful modern imagery. To achieve this, I combined hand-drawn typography and illustrations with carefully arranged and photographed food. The interaction of typography and illustrations with the photos creates a fun and hand-crafted dynamic.
TOPI WEBSITE REDESIGN
Topi is a local NYC startup who's goal is to connect business people with one another. I worked to redesign their site to achieve a refreshed look and more established feel. The site utilizes a one page layout, presenting the essential information in a simplified, easy to follow manner.
I had the opportunity to work with HeyBubble to redesign the user interface of their online support windows. HeyBubble online chat enables customization of the window styling to match the look and feel of the client's web site. As a result, I created a UI that focused on a minimally styled chat area to allow for a wide arrange of personalized accent colors.
VALHALLA BREWING COMPANY
Valhalla Brewing Co. is the name of my homebrewing operation. The name Valhalla, after Norse mythology , pays homage to my German heritage and to the idea of celebrating over food and drink. When creating an identity, I wanted to reference Germanic as well as American symbolism. The mark is a combination of an American and German eagle, the typography adapted from woodcut type, and color scheme pulled from the German flag.

I DON'T WANNA TACO 'BOUT IT
What started as an off-hand comment about a sad taco turned into a
full-fledged t-shirt design. The design was submitted to Threadless.com, where it was voted on by a community of over 2.5 million voters. After being accepted, the design went up for sale on shirts, iPhone cases, and wall art.
When approaching my graduation announcements, I wanted to make them function past the event. I decided to create hand-letterpressed coasters. The coasters were printed double sided, onto a heavy coaster stock using a photo-polymer. I also created a short video documenting the process. Follow the link below.
Matt Will is a designer and illustrator currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Since graduating from the University of Missouri, he has worked with numerous clients, including: Citibank, SocialGuide, Appleseeds, Tracx, Realty Collective, and Lighthouse Film Festival among others.
Originally from St. Louis, MO, Matt is an avid homebrewer, competition barbecuer, amateur food scientist, and lover of all things plaid.
